Lisa Waag and I headed off for a week in Southeastern Arizona expecting to see lots of new birds including hummingbirds. We were definitely not disappointed. Our first stop was at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum where they had 2 aviaries - one for Hummingbirds and one for other birds. At the hummingbird aviary there was a baby Broad-billed in a tiny nest.
While we were there, the Mom fed the baby which was interesting to see.
There were 4 species in the aviary including this male Black-chinned.
This male Broad-billed posed repeatedly.
Closer view of the baby.
There were many species of birds in the main aviary including this Gilded Flicker. A bird we never saw out in the field.
Also there were a pair of Northern Bobwhites another bird we never saw in the field.
An Inca Dove.
Curve-billed thrasher which we saw several times later in the trip.
